Great post, thanks.
6 L per 100 km... what will happen to manufacturers such as Ferrari or even Mercedes, specialized in sports car or spacious limousines respectively?

On a side [light] note: no, modern cars are not more fun than those 35-40 years ago. Although it depends on your definition of fun (gadgets and inboard electronics?). A fun car is a car that gives me direct connection with it and with the elements (road...), just like a toy one controls 100%. Driving a Mehari or 2cv is much more fun that driving a boring Golf TDi.
