Thanks for another great article. Just one question: you praise the ease-of-use of Amazon’s one-click feature, but isn’t that dependent on the “Old Guard” credit card companies that you want to be challenged by a micropayment system?

How can a PayPal-killer get access to people's money without sending a bill as credit card companies do, or acting like a pre-fill debit card as PayPal does?

I think it's a great idea. I just don't know how it would be implemented.

Thanks again.

Amazing post! Your example of FB being a giant promenade is great. With the tens of millions of FB users (over 150million?), if they introduce a micropayment system that is reliable and simple to use, they will be a major force to be reckon with and will definitely take a bite out of PayPal's market share.

Thank you Jean-Louis for this very interesting post. BTW, the difference between Google and Facebook, twitter, etc. is that they already *have* a business model, and quite profitable from what I can see.. :-). Besides, they are moving. Slowly. But surely. I would say that Reader's "share" feature is gaining momentum, and that their "profile" service, with links to your facebook page, linkedin, picasaweb, etc. etc. would be a good entry point to the social networking game. Wait and see.. :-).

Cheers,
Christophe.

Peter Thiel main investor in Facebook has also invested in Acebucks, a currency for the Facebook platform. Which when you consider that Facebook has the population (over 200million) of a large country, places him in an ideal position to launch his own Facebook Dollar, no? I sense a QQcoins situation coming up (China). Add in that $70m of the projected $500m is coming from virtual goods and where we place value and monetize value starts to shift in interesting ways.

Oh btw, great post! :) I think an open source currency might just be a long term future goal, and would be interesting to implement...
Bags me the job of Treasurer of the Internet :)
