I appreciate the time you put in this work or in this article. Although you have interesting ideas, I really cannot agree with them. I'm sure there are better ways to walk through this bad situation. Not trying to flame or troll or anything .

Attributor seems to be a great service, and I am firm believer in the fact that Google makes money from other content, but you did not deal with the assertion that stealers are contributing to widespread the content, that would not have know such an exposure otherwise. This one value accretion is hard to gauge...

Two very different points:

1: One French editor in chief, Benoît Raphael of the LePost.fr ( http://www.lepost.fr/ ) site, comes pretty close to endorsing free-riding off news agency copy via the web in the following article:
http://benoit-raphael.blogspot.com/2009/06/forcats-du-web-depeches-dagence-couts.html

2: An interesting analysis of the overall free-riding issue, along with proposals to make changes to copyright law to prevent it, is in an article by Daniel and David Marburger: http://www.scribd.com/doc/17483794/Economic-Analysis

When you read about technologies like attributor.com you can think "great it will solve the problem of traditional media outlets : cash the content"

But you can also not help thinking that the next move news agregator will to highlight what is new in the what media outlet produce. A sort of techmee but at a larger scale.

And it will respond to the user's needs. Try to think the Google way.
