While I enjoy your posts, and I really like your writing style, I think it would be wise to spend a couple of minutes proof-reading, since this post particularly is filled with typos and spelling mistakes which detract from your credibility. Shawn’s right: my tone is a bit sarcastic. And the sarcasm applies to yours truly as I mention the Apple-Dec “alliance” in the piece.
As for BeOS and Apple, as a Mac and iPhone user, I’m thrilled Steve came back for Apple 2.0, to give a new life to the troubled company. Be went on to go public in 1999, making money for its investors. After the Internet Bubble burst, we sold the technology to Palm. Guess what? The merging of OS and cultures didn’t work. When, a little later, I became Chairman of Palm Source, we promptly palmed-off, bad pun, the whole thing to the Japanese Access, making good money for the shareholders.
As for Qt, as discussed in an earlier comment, I fail to see the momentum vs. competing mobile platforms. The “write once, run everywhere” theory is well known. What is also well known is it rarely translates into implementtations that are both universal and agile.

Henrik Hartz is right: I didn’t mention Qt. See: http://qt.nokia.com/products.
I’m not sure such broad attempts to cover “everything” can be successful on, I quote Nokia: Embedded Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, Linux/X11, Windows CE/Mobile, Symbian and Maemo/MeeGo. And this on “pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems”. There is currently no independent market evidence of Qt gaining traction against its competition. Trying to cover so many bases is rarely a recipe for sharp, agile products.

misses the uniting component called Qt. As the first commenter mentioned it works across different platforms.

In other words; people write once and deploy on many devices and operating systems.

Is this really jlg writing this junk or someone using the name?

If it is jlg, I find it ironic that you choose to write such sloppy analysis of moblin/maemo when it was your choice not to merge BeOS with apple when there were absolutely no market conditions favoring continued independence that doomed that company and the hard work of so many talented people to obsolescence. Was foregoing an alliance wirth apple to engage in “focus shift” to BeIA really such a good idea?

Even a cursory review of nokia’s roadmap shows that Qt will be a first-class citizen on both symbian and meego platforms allowing for an ecosystem of code reuse in applications across their entire hardware lines as well as whatever intel and other vendors bring to the marketplace. This includes x86 desktop, arm, atom, moorestown, platforms. Qt+linux userland providing the application api.

You may disagree with the technical strategy (qt+boost as a compiled fat java) but to arrogantly dismiss it out of hand based on such flimsy and faulty opinion is just arrogance.

Not sure I agree with your MeeGo assessment, did you investigate the MeeGo (not Meego which gives you the incorrect Wikipedia article) architecture? It’s based on Qt, which works across exactly pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems.
