Amazing write-up and highly exhaustive I have to say!

Yes, I agree! It is sad to see the deception that is becoming the norm and online adverising is following suit. Look at all the medical treatments that are been advertised like the latest stop snoring solutions and how to stop snoring tools, and what about the hair loss stuff and skin scar removal creams. Sad I tell you.

Thanks for the article!

Thank you so much for providing individuals with such a superb opportunity to discover important secrets from this site. It is usually very useful and also packed with a good time for me personally and my office fellow workers to visit your site the equivalent of three times every week to read through the newest issues you have got. And of course, I am also certainly amazed concerning the unique creative concepts served by you. Some 3 facts in this posting are in fact the most impressive I have had.

I agree with JLG. I think the future has a lot of collaborating fat clients with services behind them, which is very much the present we have now and have enjoyed in the past. We simply expect a higher degree of networking and collaboration than in the past.

The one thing I would point out is do we really need lightweight web versions of software? I see how this is attractive to organizations as it effectively outsources the installation and management of the software on workers' PCs. You don't need an IT arm to manage installations and updates.

What I'm not sure about is if this makes sense in a future where mobile computing is cheap, powerful, and accessible. It's not hard to envision ipad like devices that have long battery life and ever present networking. In this scenario, you can take your expressive fat client applications and your personal computing environment everywhere you go. I think this lessens the impact of Google's version of the future where every PC is simply a terminal onto a web-bound world.

Perhaps the mobile personal computing future is better suited to the consumer market, but in any case I'm not sure why we would willingly accept less functional web applications when we have a world of rich applications that can allow us to share and collaborate with the same back end services.

For MSFT to gain a presence in the Cloud, maybe they have a decade of intense work on improving their data security reputation ahead of them.

The difficulty for Google or Facebook is to transform users in clients; if you can't achieve this you stay on the advertising business only.

> [Microsoft, ed.] spends 15% of its revenue in R&D and 28% in Sales, Marketing and General Administration. Compare this to Apple’s 29.5% Operating Profit, 3% R&D, and 9% SG&A.

3% R&D is not a lot.

Years ago, like a lot of other Apple fans, I worried Microsoft would rule the world. I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized Wintel had waited too long to get a foothold in the creative arts. (Of course they still wound up with a piece. And Steve just had to make my stomach lurch with the move to Intel processors, tho' I'm now happily ensconced in that end.)

So I moved on - tho' no one I spoke to really gave me the time of day on this one - to thinking that it would be Adobe that'd have us all (at least creatives) fast under its thumb. Inconvenient as that would be, we're not the whole world, so I'd manage.

But comes along Google and now I'm really worried.

Thing is, am I the only one who finds he idea of putting all my info, work, and data on Google's cloud totally icky? I want my stuff to stay my stuff. And certainly my clients' stuff (the makings of their books on which I work) to stay secure on my watch.
