Est-ce une bonne analyse? Cela dépend de quel point de vue on la juge. Elle trouvera sans doute un bon écho chez ceux qui n’ont pas voté Hollande, elle fera plaisir à ceux qui ont voté Bayrou,… elle est sans doute très réaliste, trop réaliste. Et le réalisme tue l’espoir et quand il n’y a plus d’espoir la violence prend sa place. Israël a si bien réussi que la plus grande partie des richesses sont la propriété de 5 familles, la révolte gronde (minime aujourd’hui car le pays est encvore en guerre avec ses voisins, attendez de voir ce qu’amènera la paix = autre espoir). Des chiffres… Réduire le déficit… On demande aux grecs des efforts sur un an que d’autres ont réalisés sur 5 ans dans une meilleure économie. Continuer à tuer l’espoir et vous aurez des problèmes bien plus graves à résoudre…

Me voilà vraiment désespérée.J’ai fait le choix de François Hollande pour président car je voulais croire ai changement tel qu’il était proposé et à d’un pouvoir irréprochable. Quelle trahison de découvrir que François Hollande fait le choix comme chef du gouvernement Jean Marc Ayrault, qui n’est clairement pas irréprochable ! Ce monsieur a tout de même était condamné à de la prison pour acte de favoritisme ! Vraiment décue !.

Sharp analysis. It’s not just that France is not fertile ground for entrepreneurs (for which they do not have a word, pace George Bush), the country is hostile to innovators and punishes investors. This is a lethal cocktail when you add in structural rigidities in France. A taxi mafia that makes it 4x costlier to get to the airport than to fly to London. Dental hygienists banned to protect dentists (!). France is a nation of shopkeepers, artisans and peasants, fundamentally. I advise all young French people to learn Portugese and delocalise to Brazil.

Maybe it’s just another way to measure success.
Maybe having more billionaires is not the goal of a balanced society.
Maybe is it safer on the long run to not overdrive the engine all the time.

New president said last night that the main direction for the next 5 years will be to make sure everybody has the same chances.

Oh come on, this is principally BS:
- French schools do not have enough teachers because Sarkozy cut so many of them. My girls’ school has to turn kids away if a teacher’s ill, as the replacement teachers have been cut
- regardless of what is invested in French universities you forget what further education costs students: practically nothing in France, a lifetime of debt in UK and US
- Neither Sarkozy nor Hollande made any mention of startups during the campaign. This doesn’t mean Hollande will do nothing for them. Au contraire, he’s said he’s the president of the young…

I laughed when Sarkozy told Michel Denisot of Canal + last week that the one important missing topic from the debate which he regretted was Culture. In one word, he summed up the French conservatism that kills innovation and inspiration. Education and fiscal policy to fight austerity should have been the 2 major topics of the campaign. But instead, they decided to spend 20 minutes of the debate on nuclear plants’ danger, when the true problem resides in nuclear waste management.
This is why I voted blank this weekend.

California has 37 million people and France 65 million. The University of California Budget is US$ 22.5 billion to which we should add another couple of billion of dollars for the State University and the Junior College. The total would probably amount to the US$ 31 billion for French higher Ed Education system for about 1 million students when California population is roughly 60% of the French Population.

I’ve always shared with Jean-Louis that French Startups should move to America (as should most of the startups in Europe) to take advantage of the size of the market and the access to capital. So, now Mr. Hollande has provided a opportunity for the savy VC investor to fuel this exodus. But, will the savy investor back the VCs? Unfortunately, France still doesn’t yet have enough home grown billionaires to fuel this sort of investment and most US funds will still continue to be more comfortable in London than in Paris. So, for the time being it looks like the more things change…. the more things will remain the same.
